Sydney Restaurants...One Of The World's Finest.

Sydney restaurants rank amongst the finest in the world. Fabulous wine, spectacular view, and abundance of fresh producecreate a uniquely Australian gastronomic landscape. And in my experience, Sydney is a fantastic Australian city to wine and dine.

al fresco lunch at Manly restaurant

Sydney is a multicultural city. You have cuisines from every corner of the world all in one delectable city- like a food capital.

When people migrate to another country, they seem to settle in an area where there is a concentration of people where they came from. You will therefore find in that area restaurants distinct to that ethnic origin. It is the same in Sydney.

So if you want Italian Sydney restaurants, the place will be in Leichardt. It is a piece of Italy around three kilometres inner west of the city. You can get there easily by bus, train or taxi.

Go to small eateries along Dixon Street in Chinatown for some cheap authentic Chinese food. Or you can try the daily yum chas and banquet menus in larger restaurants.

Catch a train to Auburn for some Turkish kebabs and pides. Or you can take away some charcoal chicken with pide, tabouli salad and garlic dip. Yummmmm!

Another cheap eat is in Cabramatta, Sydney's "little Vietnam". We usually go there for lunch. After a sumptous meal, we do our shopping there as well. It is one of the bargain places in Sydney- from food, clothes, electrical and the likes.

Sheraton hotel restaurant

You will find that food and travelling go hand and hand. When you are away on vacation, you get to try out a whole new cuisine and set of ingredients. Sometimes you can learn new ways of cooking and food combination to take back home with you and bring new life and creativity in your kitchen.

When you arrive to a Sydney restaurant and people are queuing to be seated, it is usually a good sign. You know that there is going to be a waiting period before you even get seated- but depending on your level of patience, it could be worth the wait. So next time, you can book in advance for your next visit.

Sydney restaurants in prime locations are more pricey, especially those with the commanding views of Sydney Harbour and city skyline. After all, you are in for a treat of not only great food but the spectacular view as well.

How pricey are they? Well, let me tell you our experience which happened just recently.

Dave's birthday at Sydney restaurant in The Rocks

Our daughter Romenda booked us for dinner to celebrate her husband Dave's birthday. It was one of those Sydney restaurants right on the edge of Sydney Harbour.

It has an uninterrupted view of the harbour and the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge . Great food and service. Good company. Spectacular view. What more can youasked for?

We knew it will be expensive but we were still surpised when we were handed the bill...it broke our budget for that week! (Hmmm. I know now why that waiter was all smile and very attentive to all our needs.)

But we had great fun!

Are we going back there? Not in the near future. And if we do, it will be another restaurant...for variety of course.

You don't have to splash out to find good quality meal at a nice restaurant. So I will be sharing with you our "family's" favourite Sydney restaurants. Favourite in sense of quality, price and service.

Favourite Sydney Restaurants In Parramatta

We live in Parramatta area which is around 15 kilometers from the city CBD. It is the second city after Sydney. So most of the Sydney restaurants we dine in will be around this area. And yes, occasionally we go to city as well.

Church St., Parramatta's eat street

Church St. is the "eat street" in Parramatta. Restaurants here sit side by side offering both indoor and outdoor dining. Most of the restaurants have their own bar and some will allow you to BYO (Bring Your Own) wine but will charge you for corkage. Tipping is not compulsory but you can give any amount if you wish.

Here are our favourites:

  • Sicilian, 292 Church St

    Sicilian Sydney restaurant

We love its warm and homely atmosphere. Popular for its woodfire pizza. The "melt in the mouth" lamb shanks is my favourite from their menu, followed by its seafood platter.

  • Costa Esmeralda Seafood Restaurant, 333 Church St

Our favourite for romantic diners. You must book weeks in advance on especial day like Valentine's Day. A "must" for seafood lovers and live entertainment a plus.

Update: The place is now under a new name of Akropolis, a Greek restaurant. Could be under new management. We still have to try their menu since changing its name.

  • Thai Sydney restaurant

  • Spice Gourmet Thai Restaurant, 71 George St

A small restaurant that packs a lot of firepower. The service is quick, friendly and courteous. Tends to get crowded and noisy because of the size but it is a cosy place. The food, price and service more than compensate.

  • Criniti's Southern Italian cuisine, 291 Church St

Humongous serving is how I will describe Criniti's. Has huge following so it will not appeal to people who like peace and quite during a meal. It must be doing something right. They just have opened a branch in Darling Harbour in the city.

  • Temasek Singapore/Malaysian Restaurant, 71 George St

    Singapore Malyasian Sydney reataurant

Don't be fooled by it's simple and no-frills decor...the food is just great. My wife swears that it has the best laksa in Sydney. I especially like their sambal kangkong and beef rendang. The place is always full, so make a booking in order not to be disappointed.

  • Pho Pasteur Vietnamese Restaurant, 137 Church St

For a quick tasty meal, you can't beat this place. This is our favourite for quick lunch. The place is not plushy but we come for the food. In and out in a flash...can't complain.

  • Oatlands House Garden Restaurant, 42 Bettington Rd, Oatlands

The restaurant is in the ground floor of a Victorian house in a five acres of lush garden. It offers a Seafood Smorgasbord and Al a Carte menu selection. It is an ideal venue for intimate dinner and family celebration. Also popular for big event functions like weddings, debu, school formals, corporate parties and the likes. Function rooms are in the second floor and can cater for any budget.

It is such a romantic place that we had our silver wedding anniversary celebration there. It was a semi-formal affair and we opted for the Seafood Smorgasbord. We had family and close friends as our guests.

  • Favourite Sydney Restaurants In the City

    • Summit Restaurant, Level 47, Australia Square Bldg. 264 George St, Sydney

One of our favourites when celebrating our wedding anniversary. Revolving 47 floors above ground, you have 360 degrees of uninterrupted breathtaking view of Sydney and surrounds.

We had a funny experience the first time we went there. My wife left her bag on the floor when we were seated. After a while, she began to panic as she "lost" her bag. We found it in the other "end" of the restaurant.

    • Jordons Seafood Restaurant, 197 Harbourside, Darling Harbour

The first time I dined here was with my workmates as our Christmas party. I had this enormous 3-tiered seafood platter that was so fresh that I made it a point to put it in our list of favourite family restaurant. The magnificent view of Sydney Harbour and city skyline from the dining area makes it an spectacular dining experience.

    Our Favourite Chinese Sydney Restaurant

We have been to a great number of Chinese restaurants but these ones are where we usually come back. Some are plushier but the food and service are comparable

    Chinese buffet Sydney reataurant

We go for Yum Cha, buffet and a la carte for dinner. We usually have chili crab and a special Chinese rollfor starter. The roll is a deep fried and slightly sweet... crunchy outside but soft inside. You eat with your hands with the crabs and "clean" your plate with the bread. Just yummmm!

Here are some of our favourites:

    • Tingha Palace, Parramatta Leagues Club 13-15 O'Connell, Parramatta
    • Rhodes Phoenix Chinese Restaurant, Rhodes Shopping Centre Level 5, 1 Rider Blvd. Rhodes
    • Yummy Seafood Restaurant, 167 Hume Highway Chullora

    • I am not a self-proclaimed foodie, but I know a delectable food and restaurant when I taste and see one. And these Sydney restaurants fits our expectations of great gustation and service without breaking our budget.

So whether Sydney is the place you call home, or your tourist attractions destination- you are in for a mouthwatering experience!

A friend recommended this place to us. The atmosphere in this small Sydney restaurant is very good and really romantic with soft modern Italian music ...
